The Kansas City Royals start the "Battle for the AL Central vs the Minnesota Twins with an impressive 3-1 victory. It was starter Jason Vargas (5-2) throwing six scoreless frames as he allowed just five hits and struck out two.

Royals DH Kendrys Morales was the story as he took Twinkies RHP Phil Hughes deep for a two-run blast and those two runs stood up through the 7th as the Twinkies struck on a Eddie Rosario RBI single.
